In value terms, it recorded deals worth $7.2 billion, representing a decrease of 75.7%. Over the same period, M&A activity in the emerging markets declined by 28.1% in volume terms and 57.1% in value terms.
• Telecom operators in the US focused on enhancing their wireless broadband infrastructure and services. Media and entertainment companies acquired interactive media businesses to drive growth.
• Financial applications providers led the M&A activity in the application software segment. M&A activity in the gaming software segment was focused on strengthening existing capabilities and expanding offerings.
• Communication and networking equipment providers aimed at acquiring capabilities and expanding market presence.
• Venture capitalists invested approximately $853.6m in 138 companies, against the last six-month average of $1.4 billion in 164 companies, a decline of 16% and 37% in volume and value terms, against the last six-month average.
