The industry group's value is calculated according to the real estate management and development industry, which consists of companies engaged in real estate ownership, management and/or development, and is valued using the total revenues generated by these companies via leasing and property management activities. While REITs are included in the GICS definition for this industry, the method used in valuing REITs, in terms of market capitalisation, is not compatible and as such, this sector's value cannot be added to the real estate M&D value to form an overall industry value. However, the market capitalisation of the REIT industry is discussed in the market analysis section of this report. The REIT industry is considered as the summation of REIT market capitalization in four key markets: US, Canada, Australia, and Japan.
