Overview of Traditional Chinese Medicine in China

TCM has not only systematic theory but also plentiful therapeutically methods, welcomed by the Chinese people, and has attracted increasing attention from the people all over the world. There are now 2,457 specialized traditional Chinese hospitals including 39 TCM-WM integrated hospitals and 129 national medicine hospitals in China. Traditional Chinese medicine hospitals have been established in 75% of all the counties across the country. This report is a general market survey aiming to illustrate what TCM industry is, its past, present and future. A bird view of TCM industry in China can be obtained from this report. Consecutive market monitoring on the situation of TCM has been conducted from 1997 to 2004. Basic understanding on the traditional Chinese medicine, traditional medicinal materials, concentrated Chinese herb granule, etc. from such aspects as production, export, consumption, raw materials, technology is provided for readers to understand the competitiveness of Chinese TCM industry.
