There are 49 competitor developments analyzed in the November edition of the Payment Card Competitor Tracker. This is slightly higher than the level in October (47) and September (46), and is ahead of the annual average of 47.One key theme in November is in online commerce, where American Express and Visa have either launched or enhanced their consumer-facing reward and discount offerings. Amex has launched inSite, a browser plug-in to direct cardholders to discounts. Visa has enhanced its Rightcliq platform and partnered with two companies who enable overseas trading.PayPal's developer conference saw the announcement of several new PayPal-related products across business to business payments, digital micropayments and in mobile. Without doubt, these developments highlight the gap that is emerging between PayPal and the card schemes in terms of leadership in new areas of electronic payments.
