BNP Paribas (BNP or 'the group') is one of Europe's largest banks. The group has a well established retail banking network in France and has operations in 85 countries. Apart from retail banking, BNP also specializes in corporate and investment banking, and asset management. This profile offers a comprehensive review of the group's operations and performance.

BNP has strong retail banking operations in France. It's French retail banking client base comprises 6 million individual clients, 500,000 entrepreneurs and small business clients and 22,000 corporate and institutional clients. The group operates a network of 2,200 BNP branches, 4,500 ATMs, 212 private banks and 24 business centers in France. BNP's Enterprise value (EV) rose continuously during 2002-2006, except for 2004, at a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of 13.5%. During this period, debt grew at a CAGR of 9.1% while market capitalization grew at a CAGR of 22%. In 2007, BNP was partially affected by the US sub prime crisis. BNP had frozen $2.2 billion worth of funds after it was hit by the US sub-prime mortgage meltdown. In November 2007, through BancWest, BNP remains exposed to the US construction sector. About 25%, or $12 billion, of BancWest's loan portfolio is invested in commercial real estate.
