Progress Energy, an integrated energy company, is engaged in the generation, transmission, distribution, and sale of electricity in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Florida. At the end of fiscal 2006, Progress Energy Carolinas (PEC) had 18 generating plants with a total generating capacity of 12,409 MW and Progress Energy Florida (PEF) had 14 generating plants with a total generating capacity of 8,913 MW.
