1. EPA Finalized Renewable Fuel Standards (RFS2) for 2012 - Increased Focus on Advanced Biofuels
The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has finalized the Renewable Fuel standards (RFS2) for the 2012, under Renewable Fuel Standard program). The program has set four separate standards for each fuel categories: cellulosic biofuel, biomass-based diesel (BBD), advanced biofuel, and total renewable fuel. These standards are the ratio of renewable fuel volume to non-renewable gasoline and diesel volume. The overall percentage standards for 2012 are 1 0.91% for BBD, 1.21% for advanced biofuel, 0.006% for cellulosic biofuels and 9.23% for total renewable fuels.
2. China Increases Solar PV Target for 2015 to 15 Gigawatts (GW)
China has revised its 2015 solar installation targets for the second time in a year, to aim for 15 GW by 2015. Installations will be driven by continued regulatory support, by the drop in government enthusiasm for nuclear energy following the Fukushima disaster and by technological advancements. Chinese manufacturers will see a boost as solar energy is expected to follow wind energy's positive growth arc. Despite the predicted budgetary strain, the Chinese government has both the previous success record and demonstrated commitment to meet their ambitous 2015 target of 15 GW
