Highlights
The overall deal activity in the energy sector has experienced fluctuations in volume over the last six quarters. However, there was a steady increase apparent from Q1’10 onwards. In Q2–Q3 2010, a total of 306 deals worth over $40bn were targeted at the energy sector.
The Americas and EMEA were the key target regions over the last six quarters, accounting for 40% and 37% of the inbound deals, respectively. The bulk of investments in a particular region originated from the same region.
EMEA saw the highest volume of cross-border deal activity globally for the six quarters analyzed. The region accounted for 52% and 55% of the outbound and inbound deals, respectively. In Q2–Q3 2010, while the Americas and APAC saw an increase in deal volume (both inbound and outbound) over 2009 levels.
